WESTTOWN’S TOP TEN INTERVIEW TIPS

1. First impressions count. Arrive on time but not too early.

2. Dress well in clothes that make you feel comfortable and confident.

3. Your primary goal is to share who you are, don't worry about impressing the interviewer -- good ones are trying to get to know you, not evaluate you.

4. Make sure you understand the question. Don't be afraid to ask a clarifying question to be sure.

5. If the questions you are asked don’t give you the opportunity to share something important, find a way to add it to the conversation. "One thing we have not talked about that is important to (or about) me is...”

6. Prepare open-ended questions, the answers to which will help you decide if the school is a good fit. For example, if you love music and play the oboe, ask, "How might I continue to pursue oboe?" not "Does your school, have a good orchestra?"

7. Your questions should help reveal important things about you. Be sure they do and be sure you clearly relay how they do. Don't ask "How many clubs do you have?" Instead try, "I love robotics and Frisbee golf. Are there clubs for those?”

8. Be ready to describe what you want to be true about yourself and your next school in the future, not just what is true today.

9. It’s okay to be nervous. It’s also okay to let the admission counselor know how you are feeling.

10. Have fun, smile, and be ready to laugh.
