Westtown Writers' Workshop

Sunday, November 3rd

All 6th -8th graders are invited for an afternoon of creativity.  Established authors and experts in writing will challenge students to expand their skill set.

The small group setting and interactive environment promises to be a perfect setting to allow young writers to develop their craft.  This workshop is open to students form all schools.

Authors include Lisa Graff, Jon McGoran and  Christine Kendall.  

Pre-Registration is required and  space is limited. Workshop will take place in the Westtown Science Center from 1:00 - 4:00 pm and it is $10 per student. 


About the Authors:

Lisa Graff
Lisa Graff is the award-winning author of the National Book Award nominee A Tangle of Knots and its sequel, A Clatter of Jars. Her other books include Lost in the Sun, Absolutely Almost, and Double Dog Dare, among others. Lisa’s newest book, Far Away, was published in March of this year.  Originally from a small town in California, Lisa began writing stories when she was only 8. After college, she moved to New York City, where she earned an MFA in Creative Writing for Children from The New School and worked in the publishing industry. Lisa, who also writes YA fiction under the pseudonym Isla Neal, now lives just outside of Philadelphia.

Christine Kendall
Christine Kendall grew up with five siblings, and they all played musical instruments. She enjoyed writing early on, but her first career was in [corporate]. Christine she has written short fiction and worked on picture books, and first novel, Riding Chance,  was nominated for the NAACP’s Image Award.

Jon McGoran
Jon is a freelance writer and novelist, writing for adults and teens. His first YA novel, Spliced, described as “thrilling and more than a little scary” by Kirkus reviews, was named to the American Library Association's inaugural 2018 LITA Excellence in Children’s and Young Adult Science Fiction Notable List, and to the American Bookseller’s Association’s 2017 ABC Best Books for Young Readers. Jon’s second novel in this near-future sci-fi series, Splintered  (published in May of this year) was described as “an exciting, futuristic thriller.” In addition to writing, Jon co-hosts “The Liars Club Oddcast,” a podcast about writing and creativity.
